Two years ago, I started baking cakes from my kitchen in Indore.
Here are three mistakes I made at the start, and what I do differently now:
1. I underpriced everything.
I was scared nobody would pay more. Low prices didn't bring better customers. They just made my work look less valuable.
2. I said yes to every order.
Even when I didn't have the time. The result: rushed cakes and a tired baker.
3. I ignored photos.
Online, people decide with their eyes first. A great cake with a poor photo is invisible.
What changed:
→ I price for my time and ingredients
→ I take a limited number of orders each week
→ I photograph every cake in daylight
The lessons are the same whether you run a factory or a home kitchen: value your work, protect your time, and show it well.
If you're starting a home business, which of these are you facing right now?
